Seton Hill Griffins
SHU Baseball (26-15, 11-9): Seton Hill went into a weekend series with Indiana (Pa.) for third place in the PSAC West with the Crimson Hawks and that tie remained when the weekend series was over. In game one, Seton Hill hammered out 14 hits and had leads of 4-0, 7-5, 7-6 and 8-7 but lost the game 9-8. Austin Braendel and Mark Colella each collected three hits. Colella homered and drove in two runs. The Griffins bounced back to the second game 6-3 behind a strong pitching performance from Zack Martinelli (Hempfield) (4-4). He allowed three earned runs in a complete game victory. Sam Vilk and MP Buckley had two hits each while Craig Lewis added two RBI’s. The Griffins closed out their four game set with IUP on Saturday by splitting a doubleheader. The first game went to IUP 3-2 as the Crimson Hawks scored two runs in the sixth inning and held on for the win. SHU managed only four hits in the contest. The Griffins again rebounded to take the second contest 5-4. SHU scored five runs on five hits and were aided by three IUP errors, leading to three unearned runs. Bryce Spak (4-1) picked up the win allowing one earned run over three innings in relief of starter Don McWreath. Seton Hill earned an 11-9 non-conference victory over Point Park earlier in the week on Tuesday. Ty Sullivan tallied three hits while Colella drove in three runs. The team travels to Shippensburg on Tuesday (3 p.m.) then welcomes Clarion to begin a four-game set on Friday at 1 p.m.
>> MP Buckley was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week by the PSAC West last week. Buckley hit .545 in five games with (2) doubles, a triple, three homers, seven runs scored and eleven RBI’s.
SHU Softball (16-20, 8-5): Seton Hill hosted first place Gannon on Saturday and split a doubleheader with the Golden Knights winning 4-0 and losing 1-0. Amanda Huff tossed the shutout in game one allowing six hits. Ashley Perillo and Abbey Suhoski drove in the Griffin runs. In a tightly pitched second game, an unearned run in the sixth inning propelled Gannon to a 1-0 win. Amanda Huff and Leighann Pettis combined to pitch a complete game five-hitter, allowing just the one unearned run in a losing effort. The bats were silent as the Griffins were held to three hits. Another split came Seton Hill's way on Sunday at Slippery Rock. Huff threw another shutout to lead SHU to a 7-0 triumph. Both Perillo and Suhoski had two hits, hit a home run and drove in two runs. Game two went to the Rock 5-0. Perillo collected three more hits. Earlier in the week, Seton Hill dropped a PSAC crossover doubleheader to IUP losing 7-3 and 5-4 on Monday. SHU has a big week this week traveling to Edinboro (DH) on Tuesday (3 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (DH) on Friday (2:30 p.m.. They close out the regular season with a doubleheader at California (Pa.) on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
SHU Men’s Lacrosse (8-4, 3-2): In the only match of the week, the Griffins defeated the University of Indianapolis 11-9 on Saturday on Senior Day. John Hofseth and Bennett Johnson had four goals apiece while Jack Moran added a goal and three assists. SHU travels to Ohio Valley University on Tuesday (4 p.m.) will close out the regular season at Wheeling Jesuit University on Saturday at noon.
>> Bennett Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper Max Eismann Defensive Player of the Week by the G-MAC last week. Johnson scored twice in the win over No. 4 NYIT and added an assist against Walsh. Eismann went 2-0 this week while allowing only three goals.
SHU Women’s Lacrosse (9-7, 6-5): Mackenzie Kilduff tallied five goals including four in the second have to lead the Griffins to a come from behind 13-9 win over Grand Valley State. The Griffins suffered a 14-7 loss to West Chester University on Saturday. Christine Palmeri scored two goals while Nellie Phillips scored two and had two assists. SHU will close out the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday, hosting Kutztown University on Senior Day.
Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats
UPG Baseball (16-12, 8-6): UPG started the week with a doubleheader split against Mt. Aloysius on Tuesday losing game one 9-8 and winning game two 20-11. The Bobcats pounded out a whopping 32 hits in the doubleheader with Tyler Holland leading the way with seven hits, two home runs and seven RBIs. Bill Minnick was the winning pitcher in the second contest. Pitt-Greensburg then lost a non-conference game against Chatham 7-5 on Wednesday. Holland put up two hits and his seventh homer of the season. On Saturday, UPG split a twinbill against Medaille losing 11-6 and winning 14-10. Chris Common cracked two doubles and a home run in the first game. In game two, Common came up with a triple, home run and drove in four runs. Matt Mish (4-1) earned the win in relief. Then on Sunday, UPG swept D'Youville on Senior Day taking the first one 7-0 and second game 11-7. Dan Kiester (Norwin) belted a three-run homer to highlight the first win. Tyler Lilja had three hits, including a double and four RBIs in game two. Cohl Gibbs (1-0) earned his first win of the season. UPG will host Hilbert College (DH) on Friday (11 a.m.) and travel to Mount Union on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest.
>> Chris Common (Penn Trafford) was named the AMCC Player of the Week. Common hit .579 with three homers and fifteen RBI’s and also scored six runs.
UPG Softball (18-15, 10-6): The Bobcats swept La Roche College on Tuesday by scores of 9-4 and 8-7. Jaimie Schleicher picked up both wins, tossing a complete game in the opener and earning the win in relief in game two. She was also hot at the plate going 6-for-8 in the doubleheader with a home run, triple and eight RBIs. Katlyn Keenan added three hits in the opener. In game two, UPG trailed 7-0 entering the sixth inning but scored seven runs to tie the game and won it in the seventh on a walk-off RBI single by Julia Pritchard. Schleicher (16-4) threw a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over D’Youville College in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Jen Miller had the game winning RBI. In the night cap, D’Youville scored a run in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off 6-5 win. Schleicher had three hits and three RBIs. Pitt-Greensburg travels to Hilbert College on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
>> Jaimie Schleicher was named the AMCC Pitcher of the Week. Schleicher went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.30 including a two-hit shutout against Franciscan and won both games of the doubleheader against Medaille.
Saint Vincent Bearcats
SVC Baseball (13-18, 7-10): The Bearcats split a pair with Thiel on Tuesday. In game one, Greg Martin’s (Hempfield) solo home run provided the only run for SVC in a 3-1 loss. In the second game the Bearcats pounded out 14 hits in a 10-5 win. Patrick McElfish was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Chris Winkler added three hits and a RBI. Ben Davis (1-1) picked up the win in relief. Thursday, SVC and Penn State-Altoona split a doubleheader with the Bearcats dropping game won 17-6 and bouncing back to win game two 8-5. Friday, the Bearcats were unable to hold an early lead and dropped a 5-4 decision to Waynesburg. SVC totaled 14 hits in the contest, but left 11 runners on base. Tanner Yard (3-4), TJ Kuny (3-5 2B, RBI) and Greg Martin (Hempfield) (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI) combined for nine of the 14 hits. Sunday, Waynesburg swept a pair from the Bearcats by scores of 6-2 and 11-8. Yard and Luke Fox (Hempfield had two hits each in game one while Martin and Brennan Hoffer drove in runs. In game two, SVC won in the hit column, but lost on the scoreboard. Saint Vincent totaled 13 hits in the game compared to nine for the Yellow Jackets. McElfish had two hits including a two-run homer and three RBIs. SVC will host Thiel on Wednesday (3 p.m.) and Washington and Jefferson College (DH) on Saturday (1 p.m.), then will close out the week at Washington and Jefferson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
SVC Softball (16-12, 9-5): The softball team earned a doubleheader split with Geneva on Wednesday. In the opener Kelsey Lineberger smacked a home run in the fourth inning for the Bearcats only run in 3-1 loss. In the second game of the twinbill, Shelby Noel and Kelsey Hunter smashed back-to-back triples in the last inning to tie the game. In the eighth, the Bearcats scored four runs highlighted by Emily Duerr’s and Noel’s two-run RBI singles and came away with an 8-4 win. Noel led the Bearcats with three hits and three RBIs. Samantha Emert went the distance to pick up the win. The Bearcats swept a pair from Chatham on Saturday by a combined score of 21-0, winning both games in five innings by scores of 13-0 and 8-0. Noel led Saint Vincent with five hits in the doubleheader, including two triples, a pair of home runs and nine RBIs. Emert (13-6) was credited with the win in both games, throwing all ten innings. Emert allowed only five hits and struck out seven. SVC will host Waynesburg (DH) on Monday (3:30 p.m.) and travel to Penn State-Beaver (DH) on Thursday and Bethany (DH) on Saturday (1 p.m.)
SVC Men’s Lacrosse (6-7, 4-1): Six different players scored a goal each in the Bearcats 15-6 setback to Otterbein University in non-conference action on Tuesday. Frank Casile and Ben Price scored three goals and Alex Mueser added two more to lead the Bearcats past Thiel 13-9 on Sunday, handing the Tomcats their first conference loss. Saint Vincent travels to Bethany College on Thursday (5 p.m.) and will close out the regular season hosting Westminster College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Westmoreland College
WCCC Baseball (8-15, 2-3): The Pack swept a doubleheader from Garrett College 11-9 and 9-6 on Wednesday. In the opener, Cam Gerhard (Derry) went 2-for-4 (2B, HR, 3 RBI) and Noah Hansen (Kiski Area) 3-for-5 (2-2B, RBI). Jared Kristoff (Mt. Pleasant) got the win in relief of Garitt Woodburn. Michael Baird (Southmoreland) earned the save. In the night cap, Miranda homered and had four RBI’s. T.J. Lux (Yough) picked up the win with a save from Branson Auckerman (Hempfield). The Pack was swept over the weekend by Community College of Allegheny College-South 5-2 and 7-2 on Saturday and 2-1 and 19-2 by Montgomery College on Sunday. Dakota Sachs had three hits in the doubleheader loss to Montgomery College including a home run and a double. The Pack travels to Butler County Community College on Tuesday (4 p.m.), host the St. Vincent College JV’s on Thursday (4:30 p.m.), travels to Prince George’s Community College (DH) on Saturday (12 p.m.) and closes out the regular season at Butler County Community College (DH) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
>> Head Coach Mike Draghi earned his 700th win in a 7-6 victory over Allegany College on April 9th. Draghi started the baseball program at WCCC in 1992 and has a career record of 701-635-1
WCCC Softball (7-12, 7-8): The Pack dropped a doubleheader to Potomac State College of WVU on Wednesday 11-0 and 17-1. Saturday, the Pack was scheduled to play Butler County Community College in the WPCC playoffs. No further information was available. WCCC travels to Alleghany College of Maryland for a doubleheader on Monday at 3 p.m.
